Former Wallaby McCarthy dies aged 89
The Australian Rugby Union has expressed its sadness at the death of former Queensland forward Fabian McCarthy.
McCarthy, who played one Test for Australia in 1950 and was an unused member of the Wallabies' first successful tour to New Zealand a year before, died in Toowoomba on Friday aged 89.
Rated by one critic of the time as the best tight forward in the country in 1950, McCarthy's funeral was held at St Patrick's Cathedral in Toowoomba on Monday.
