Davey signs new contract with Essendon
Speedster Alwyn Davey has signed a new two year-deal which will tie him to Essendon until the end of the 2010 AFL season.
Davey, 23, played only 19 games in his first two seasons, but his pace and ability to lay tackles has made him a vital member of the Bombers' forward line.
Essendon team manager David Calthorpe said Davey's speed and skill had made him an important player for the club.
"He is an excitement machine," Calthorpe told the club's website.
"When he gets the ball he is explosive and exhilarating.
"He lifts everyone around him, whether it be his teammates or the crowd, and brings everyone into it.
"You never really know what he is going to do but he always produces something exciting."
Davey's progress in his first two seasons was stalled by a broken arm in round 14 last year, and a serious knee injury in 2008, which prevented him playing after round five.
He is the latest of a slew of young Bombers to sign new contracts this season.
