Greg Bird's girlfriend requests privacy
The girlfriend of NRL player Greg Bird, who is accused of glassing her in the face, wants her privacy respected as she recovers from her injuries, her lawyer says.
American law student Katie Milligan, 24, was taken to hospital on Sunday morning after an incident at Bird's Cronulla apartment, in Sydney's south.
The Cronulla Sharks five-eighth has been granted conditional bail after facing court on one count of maliciously inflicting grievous bodily harm.
Police allege Ms Milligan suffered cuts and a fractured eye socket when she was hit in the face with a glass.
She was taken to Sydney's Prince of Wales Hospital for treatment but a hospital spokeswoman would not confirm whether she remained a patient on Thursday.
Ms Milligan's Gold Coast-based lawyer Campbell MacCallum, of Ryan and Boscher - which Bird's management firm lists as a partner - released a statement on her behalf.
"My client wishes to advise that she is concentrating on her recovery, as this is the paramount consideration at this point in time," Mr MacCallum said in a statement to The Sydney Morning Herald.
"She has expressed some disappointment in the number of inaccuracies contained in much of the media coverage of the incident.
"However, under legal advice, she has not yet released her statement of events."
Ms Milligan's father is reportedly by her side after flying in from New York.
"She does request that the media and others respect her privacy and that of her family during this difficult period," Mr MacCallum said.
"She would like to convey her gratitude for the many expressions of support she has received, and most especially to those health-care professionals who have provided her care."
Bird, a 24-year-old rugby league international, has been stood down indefinitely by the Sharks and is due to return to court on October 8, three days after the NRL grand final.
