Pies may punt on Rocca comeback
Collingwood will consider punting on superboot Anthony Rocca for the last home and away game in a bid to have him right for the AFL finals.
An ankle injury has kept Rocca sidelined since round 13, but with a finals berth sewn up the Magpies can risk the big forward without major repercussion in Friday night's game against Fremantle.
Coach Mick Malthouse said Rocca would play against the Dockers if the medical staff passed him fit.
"If he's available we'll play him but I can't say he's available. I've got no idea," Malthouse said after Collingwood beat Sydney by 45 points last night at Telstra Dome.
"He's one of our best players and knowing what he knows and who he's going to draw ... we'll weigh it up.
"We're not going to expose players who aren't right, but if it's an Anthony Rocca who's coming off a long-term injury and he's available to play, well, then that's one of the things you'd be pretty silly not to do."
Collingwood's major injury concern this week is captain Scott Burns, who bruised his calf in the 18.10 (118) to 10.13 (73) win.
The veteran midfielder, 33, must be in some doubt to play the Dockers.
"Six-day break, touch and go I suppose," Malthouse said.
"I am not about to get involved in how bad or how incidental it is. We will judge it through the week."
Malthouse was reluctant to discuss his side's recent dominance of Sydney or their finals prospects, but said he was pleased with how the club had restructured the forward line through the season.
Collingwood were without forwards Rocca, Ben Reid, Sean Rusling, Brad Dick, Alan Didak and Dale Thomas last night because of injury or, in Didak's case, club-imposed suspension.
"We've had to reinvent ourselves and sometimes you do that over a pre-season, we've had to do it through the season under massive pressure," Malthouse said.
