Meninga concerned over ANZ Stadium
Queensland coach Mal Meninga says he has concerns about the surface at ANZ Stadium with rain expected for Wednesday night's opening State of Origin clash.
NRL coaches and Sydney Swans players have complained in the past two weeks about the slippery nature of the turf at Olympic Park during both evening and day games.
With showers and a maximum of 19 degree temperatures expected on Wednesday Meninga says the stadium surface is a concern for his side but they had planned to play in deteriorating conditions.
"Obviously the surface is a concern and it's been a concern for a while," said Meninga.
"I don't know if there's anything we can do about it.
"We've talked about it and I'm not quite sure what's going to come out of the skies tomorrow night too, there could be a few showers too.
"We've thought of most contingencies and the players are relaxed and well prepared."
Queensland have won just once in 12 visits to the Olympic stadium, their 10-6 series clinching win last year ending their Sydney hoodoo.
