AFL set to announce draft changes
The AFL is set to announce changes to the draft, but the players' dream of free agency is yet to be realised.
It is understood the league will announce the changes on Wednesday, once it has told the clubs.
On Monday, AFL Players' Association (AFLPA) chief executive Brendon Gale made a presentation to the league commission on free agency that went for about an hour.
"There will be some changes to the draft, we've been working on this with the AFLPA, we've had a draft review with a number of club representatives," AFL football operations manager Adrian Anderson told Fairfax Radio.
"Free agency is one of the things that's been discussed and there will be no change in relation to free agency.
"We will continue to discuss that issue with the AFLPA.
"There will be some changes to the draft that we want to have a look at, before we consider further the issue of free agency."
The issue of free agency will grow in importance over the next couple of years as the league prepares to expand to 18 teams.
