Swans draw with Kangaroos
North Melbourne and Sydney have played out the second draw of this AFL season today at Telstra Dome.
The Swans came from 16 points down in the last term to tie the scores, kicking 8.16 (64) to 9.10 (64).
It came a week after the Western Bulldogs and Richmond drew at the same venue.
Just as Richmond's Nathan Brown briefly raised his arms in triumph at the final siren last Sunday, North's Brady Rawlings and Brent Harvey were also celebrating until they realised the scores were level.
Swans star Adam Goodes returned to form with a best-afield performance, while defender Michael Firrito was North's best.
Sydney forward Michael O'Loughlin kicked three goals, including two in the last term.
The Swans attacked repeatedly in the last few minutes, but after O'Loughlin kicked two goals in as many minutes, they put through four-successive behinds.
Brett Kirk's snap with about a minute left looked like it was going through for the match-winning goal, but Firrito touched it on the line to tie the scores.
In the first quarter, Sydney had the early break as Goodes had an immediate impact on the game, with the Swans kicking the first two goals.
North did not goal until 27 minutes in the first term and Sydney led by 15 points at quarter-time.
The Kangaroos rebounded quickly from defence twice in two minutes early in the second quarter and this resulted in two goals for key forward Nathan Thompson.
That brought the 'Roos to within seven points and from there neither side could break clear in a tight contest.
Near the end of the first half, North key forward Aaron Edwards landed awkwardly on his left leg in a marking contest on the wing and he needed two trainers to help him from the ground.
Edwards hurt his lower left leg and did not return to the game.
The Swans led by a goal at half-time and North small forward Matt Campbell kicked the first goal of the third term to reduce the margin to just a point.
The Kangaroos then hit the front for the first time in the game at nine points when Leigh Harding snapped a goal.
The lead changed four times in the third term, with a great running goal from ruckman Hamish McIntosh giving North a five-point lead at the last change.
Jesse Smith was a late withdrawal for North and Eddie Sansbury took his place.
