Giteau to sit out Reds clash
Western Force five-eighth Matt Giteau has been ruled out of next Friday's Super 14 derby against Queensland after suffering his third bout of concussion this season in Saturday night's 17-12 loss to NSW.
Giteau was cleared of any structural damage to his neck or head at Subiaco Oval on Saturday night but club medical staff on Sunday scratched him from next week's Suncorp Stadium clash.
The Wallaby star was knocked senseless and taken from the field in a neck brace when he attempted a front-on tackle on Waratahs fullback Sam Norton-Knight in the 20th minute.
Force medical staff have ordered Giteau to stay off his feet until Wednesday, when he will be checked by a neurosurgeon in Perth.
The Force have their bye after next weekend's Reds clash and Giteau is expected to return for the game against the Chiefs in Perth on May 3.
"The system is that each day they review the levels of headaches, clearness and such," Force coach John Mitchell said.
"But we will make sure we certainly won't risk him and look after his welfare which is foremost."
