Hodges' Origin curse continues
Justin Hodges' State of Origin curse continued, his rugby league season crashing along with Queensland in the opening game against the Blues.
The Sydney Roosters centre, left embarrassed after last year's debut, was on crutches following the latest 25-12 loss and is resigned to missing the rest of the season.
He was ferried off Suncorp Stadium on a medicab early in the second half with a cruciate ligament injury as Queensland ran out of troops with team-mate Paul Bowman (medial ligament and cartilage tear) and Chris Flannery (dislocated shoulder) both unable to return to the battle.
But unlike last year when Hodges struggled to come to grips with two monumental errors in his own in-goal area, he was still smiling despite his season-ending injury to his left knee.
"I think I might be cursed, I'm probably gone for the season" said the 21-year-old.
"Maybe I'm not supposed to play for Queensland.
"These things happen, Benny Ikin's had it three times. I've just got to go through all the hard work and get back on the field next year.
"You can't let it get you down, these things happen to players, I have to keep my chin up."
Hodges' father, Roy rushed to the sideline as his son was driven from the field.
"He was just telling me I'd be right and I was really glad he came down and gave me some support."
