Fears over Watson's injury setback
Australian World Cup all-rounder Shane Watson will have scans on his injured left calf as the Queenslander battles to overcome his latest injury setback in time for the semi-finals of the tournament on April 24-25.
Watson, who missed the entire Ashes series with a hamstring injury, limped off the Sir Vivian Richards Cricket Ground in Antigua with two balls remaining in his second over in the Super Eights clash with Bangladesh.
A visibly distressed Watson, 25, was consoled by Glenn McGrath as he left the field, head down.
"He has strained his left calf," Australian team physio Alex Kountouris said.
"It's not oh my God, he's definitely out of the tournament.
"But it's a muscle strain halfway through the tournament so it's obviously a bit of a concern.
"There's another month to go in the tournament so ... I've got to speak to the selectors and the coach and the captain and see what we want to do with him and when the ideal return date is.
"You treat everyone individually. He had a history of that hamstring strain this summer which probably didn't go that well.
"But he has also strained the other calf a year ago so we have got a little bit of history with how he hurt himself with a similar sort of injury in the Pura Cup final last year.
"We'll use all that information and be as cautious as we possibly can."
Victorian batsman Brad Hodge, who made a century against the Netherlands on March 18 in St Kitts, is the likely replacement for Watson for Sunday's game against England in Antigua.
Hodge was dropped to make way for the return of Andrew Symonds, who came back from bicep surgery for the March 24 game against South Africa in St Kitts.
