Young Socceroos told UAE is safe
Australian under-20 soccer coach Ange Postecoglou said his team had been assured security was adequate for this month's World Youth Championship in the Middle East.
Australia is seeking regular updates from the region amid the threat of war, but Postecoglou said the Young Socceroos had been told it was safe to play in the United Arab Emirates.
There are three group games against the Czech Republic, Canada and Brazil in Dubai and the squad will arrive three days before playing the Czechs on March 26.
"Obviously it's a delicate one," Postecoglou said.
"At this stage all we can do is to make sure that we get the information as soon as possible and talk to the right people and talk to the team on a daily basis.
"FIFA are fairly experienced at running these events and they're telling us everything's fine and we're making sure they're liaising with the government here and making sure we are aware of the element of risk and everything.
"With events of this magnitude there is always the risk of maybe something happening.
"All we can do is just prepare accordingly and go on the advice given to us."
Australia will take a squad of 20 with four players added to the squad which beat Fiji in December in the final of the Oceania qualifiers.
England-based trio David Carney (Everton), Sean Cooney (Coventry City) and Jay Lucas (Southampton) were added with midfielder Jobe Wheelhouse from Newcastle United.
