McCartney marries after Bali
AFL footballer Jason McCartney completed his main goal since surviving the Bali bombings on Saturday by marrying in South Australia's south-east.
But the private ceremony was marred by a confrontation between security and photographers outside the St Alphonsus catholic church in Millicent.
McCartney and bride Nerissa Vanderheyden had sold photographic rights of the wedding, attended by 220 guests, to a women's magazine.
The Kangaroos footballer is understood to have donated half the proceeds to a Bali appeal fund.
Outside the church, security guards clashed with photographers from other news organisations attempting to take photos of McCartney and his bride.
One photographer, who declined to be named, said two photographers had equipment damaged by security.
Describing their treatment as rough, the photographer said security were attempting to block views of the couple together when leaving the church.
McCartney suffered burns to 50 per cent of his body in the terrorist attacks in Bali on October 12.
Today, he was believed to have taken off pressure bandages and leg supports for the first time since entering hospital after bombings.
The 28-year-old wed in front of guests including AFL teammates Mick Martyn, Anthony Stevens and Glenn Archer.
The Kangaroos defender was in an induced coma for six days in Melbourne's Alfred Hospital on return to Australia after the Bali bombings.
He has said his first thoughts on waking from the coma were ensuring the wedding in the town near SA's famed Coonawarra wine district proceeded.
