Ellis makes successful netball return
Sydney Swifts captain Liz Ellis has made a successful return to competitive netball with the Sydney Storm in the NSW Waratah Cup, after a six-month injury absence.
Starting as goalkeeper, Ellis led the Storm to a 56-33 win over Hills district at the Anne Clark Centre in Lidcombe.
It was Ellis' first competitive outing since sustaining an anterior cruciate ligament injury in the New Zealand clash on October 29.
The Australian national team captain featured in the first half of the Waratah Cup round five match and was pleased with her progress.
"There were a few nervous moments before I ran onto the court. To be honest, I was a little unsure of how I would go," said Ellis.
"Overall, though I was just excited to be back playing and once I took my first intercept, all the nerves disappeared.
"The plan was to play a quarter and assess the situation, but I felt great so I ended up playing the whole first half.
"I'm a little sore this morning, but the knee feels fine and I am just happy everything went to plan."
Swifts coach Julie Fitzgerald was delighted to see her long-time defender back in action.
"The match was a great testing opportunity for Liz. She looked very comfortable out there on the court and everything has come up really well this morning," said Fitzgerald.
