Dunning ruled out for Ireland Test
Wallabies prop Matt Dunning will miss Saturday's Test against Ireland at Lansdowne Road as Australia attempts to end a seven-Test losing streak.
Dunning has been ruled out after suffering a neck strain in a collapsed scrum in the 26-16 loss to England at Twickenham on the weekend.
The NSW loose-head was hoping to return to action against the Irish but Australia has opted to take a safety-first approach after medical tests cleared him of structural damage.
Queensland 22-year-old Greg Holmes is now set to make his starting debut, only 10 months after making his state debut for the Reds.
Brumbies loose-head Nic Henderson, 24, has joined the Wallabies in Portmarnock, north of Dublin, but has only had limited preparation with the squad.
Raised in Allora on the Darling Downs, Holmes missed a 2005 Super 12 contract but impressed for Queensland A to then become one of Jeff Miller's most promising young players in a dismal season.
Wallabies coach Eddie Jones, who announces his team on Thursday, is also considering a change at tight-head prop where Al Baxter struggled against the huge English front-row at Twickenham.
The uncapped David Fitter is poised to become Australia's 14th Test debutant this year and is likely to also start against a smaller but highly experienced Irish front-row, averaging 42 caps.
Jones must also find a back-up goalkicker to Mat Rogers with Matt Giteau unavailable due to a knee injury.
His options are Lote Tuqiri, Mark Gerrard or bringing uncapped utility back Cameron Shepherd onto the bench.
