Rabbitohs set to take Melbourne by storm
The signs of an NRL revival are there, but Souths still has plenty of work to do before the Rabbitohs can match it with the likes of Melbourne according to skipper Ashley Harrison.
The Bunnies head south to take on a slumping Storm outfit on Saturday night confident of springing an upset, with Melbourne having lost four its last five matches at home.
A draw against the Bulldogs followed by a 44-6 hammering of Manly had raised hopes of a strong finish to the season amongst the Souths faithful, and despite last weekend's loss to St George Illawarra, Harrison believes there is still cause for optimism.
"We hung in there for 60 minutes last week and just a couple of errors at crucial times hurt us," Harrison said.
"I think we've improved a little bit on the month where we were getting towelled up by 30 or 40 points. I think that's the most pleasing thing, but going down to Melbourne tomorrow night is going to be a test.
"We haven't beaten them down there since I've been at Souths. If we improve a little bit on last week, and hang in there for maybe 70 minutes this time it will help us out."
The next few weeks are looming as the most important of Harrison's short career, with a possible representative jumper and a new contract in the offing.
Having been named 18th man for Queensland's Origin II squad, the 24-year-old is being touted as a possible replacement for bruising forward Carl Webb in a reshuffled Maroons pack for the series decider.
A good performance up against fellow Origin contender Dallas Johnson could go a long way to sewing up a Queensland berth.
"I've heard that maybe I'm not too far away, so I suppose a good game this week might help my chances," Harrison said.
