Lekkas set to resume career in VFL
Stroke victim Angelo Lekkas will resume his football career this Sunday when he plays for Hawthorn's VFL affiliate Box Hill.
Club doctor Peter Bacquie said there was "a small but unquantifiable risk of further stroke" for the AFL veteran.
Lekkas suffered a mild stroke on February 27, around the time he played in a Western Australia trial match.
The club stressed that he would be under medical and fitness supervision when making his comeback.
"Given the history of Angelo's injury, there is a small but unquantifiable risk of further stroke with a return to football," Dr Bacquie said.
"This risk is understood by Angelo, his family, his manager and Hawthorn.
"Angelo is keen to play football, at this stage he is performing all the physical demands asked of him and there is no reason to hold him back from match play.
"He is an extremely determined young man and I know how much it means to him to play football again."
Lekkas will play around a half to three-quarters of the match.
"I'm prepared, focused and looking forward to playing on Sunday as part of my recovery process," Lekkas said in a club statement.
