Waratahs want Super 12 win over Reds
It has eluded NSW for nine years but even Queensland coach Jeff Miller had to admit that everything pointed to a win for the Waratahs in Friday night's Super 12 grudge match.
History may be against the Waratahs but it seems everything else is in order for them to record a first Super 12 competition win against the Reds in front of a sell-out crowd at Aussie Stadium.
Form, motivation and a superior playing roster all get a tick in the check box for NSW who will secure a home semi-final with a win.
The Reds come off the back of consecutive victories but they've flattered to deceive, the scrappy results secured against lowly ranked South African sides the Sharks and Cats.
And then there's the injuries.
The Reds lost flanker Daniel Heenan after the Cats match, five-eighth Elton Flatley - who consulted a Melbourne neurosurgeon after sustaining another head knock last weekend - is almost certain to be out and centre Ben Tune did not test his injured shoulder at Thursday's training session.
There is speculation that prop Nick Stiles might be dropped to the bench as well.
Because of the disruptions Reds coach Jeff Miller won't name a squad until Friday.
And while speaking a little facetiously of the Waratahs in the past he couldn't deny what he'd seen this year.
"It was their best ever chance last year and it was their best ever chance the year before," Miller said of NSW.
