Flatley's rugby career remains in doubt

Queensland veteran Elton Flatley faces a nerve-wracking 48-hour wait for scans results that could bring a premature end to his rugby career.

Flatley met with Melbourne neurosurgeon and former Collingwood AFL club doctor Paul McCrory after suffering his seventh head knock in four years on the weekend.

The 27-year-old lasted just 33 minutes of his side's win over the Cats at Ballymore and was ruled out of Friday night's "State of the Union" clash against NSW by team medicos earlier this week.

Flatley said the results of the potentially career-ending scans would be delivered to Reds doctor Richard Brown within 48 hours.

"I don't know much about what he (McCrory) was saying," Flatley said.

"He's going to write a report to our doctor (Richard Brown) and I'll know more then."

Flatley joined his Reds teammates in Sydney following his meeting with McCrory in a bid to lift the side's morale.

Queensland coach Jeff Miller said he would take a cautious approach with Flatley, who missed a month of Super 12 action earlier this year after being knocked out against the Crusaders in round three.

"It's always a serious thing with head knocks and you want to make sure you go through the right process and you are very thorough before the player plays again," Miller said.

"But all the medical advice that we've had is that Elton, provided he recovers fully from this head knock, will be OK."
