Lee and Hogg destroy the Windies
Brett Lee took out all his pent-up frustration after a long stint as a glorified drinks waiter and Brad Hogg claimed his best-ever figures for Australia as the West Indies were thumped by 116 runs in the tri-series opener at the MCG.
After being 12th man for eight consecutive Tests against India, New Zealand and Pakistan, no-one would have been happier than Lee to see the start of the limited-overs series.
And he didn't disappoint, claiming 3-36 as the West Indies were bowled out for 185, gifting Australia a bonus point.
Earlier in the day, Australia had made a formidable 4-301 with major contributions from Damien Martyn (95 not out), Ricky Ponting (78) and stand-in opener Michael Clarke (66).
The game was all but out of the West Indies's reach by the seventh over of their innings.
The tourists had been reduced to 4-33 and Lee had worked up a full head of steam, bowling at well over 150kph.
Brian Lara (58) and Shivnarine Chanderpaul (46) saved the West Indies from a complete drubbing with a fifth-wicket stand of 98.
Lara was dropped on nine and 38 and should have been run out on 22.
But when he and vice-captain Chanderpaul were dismissed in quick succession by wrist-spinner Hogg the match was effectively over.
Hogg tore through the West Indies middle and lower order to take 5-32, his best-ever ODI return.
