New challenger mounting attack on lead
1999 winner Yendys has appeared out of nowhere to steal the lead in the Sydney to Hobart yacht race.
Throughout the night the 52 foot Yendys, skippered by Geoff Ross, has charged through the field from tenth to lead by two nautical miles from New Zealand super maxi Konica Minolta.
Trailing by over 32km late Monday night Yendys has built up a blistering pace despite sailing into very strong southerly winds.
Early race leader Skandia continues to fade, back in fourth and 48km behind Yendys, Konica Minolta and Nicorette.
The 14 boats to dock at Eden have yet to decide whether to continue in the race.
