Williams incident will motivate Storm
Melbourne skipper Stephen Kearney says the outrage over teammate Danny Williams will motivate rather than distract the Storm for their crucial NRL clash against Parramatta on Saturday.
Williams will front the NRL judiciary and is expected to receive a suspension of up to 18 weeks for king-hitting Wests Tigers backrower Mark O'Neill in their last round clash.
A lengthy suspension would end Williams' NRL career and hamper his efforts to secure an English Super League contract.
But Kearney said the Storm had to focus on the task at hand and not get distracted by the growing outrage over Williams.
"I think we're using what has happened over the last couple of days as some sort of motivation," he said.
"It's disappointing for Danny and for us as a side as we face the idea of him missing this week, but it's something we've dealt with in the past in terms of adversity and we'll just have to move on."
Williams was sent off for striking O'Neill in the last round 32-18 loss to the Tigers, ensuring the Storm dropped out of the top five.
Kearney said the Storm (5th; 9-8 record) was desperate to maintain its focus in a bid to secure a top four finish and a home final.
"We realise that we're in a position now where we have to make a bit of a stance with regards to the remainder of the season, as the last couple of weeks have been pretty disappointing," Kearney said.
"If we continue in the same vein as last week then we'll really make it hard for ourselves.
