Former Socceroo Hosts

Stan Lazaridis & Alex Tobin return to host our Fanatics HQ Doha package!

Our tour hosts will lead our daily football forums, as we dissect each day’s matches and previous night’s results. They’ll be on hand to coach our Fanatics XI Friendlies as we take on supporters from other nations and we might even get them to pull on a jersey!

Fanatics HQ Tour Accommodation

Fanatics HQ Doha apartments are two and three bedroom apartments which can be booked as a private unit for your whole group or you can reserve a bed in one of our shared apartments and we’ll match you up with others on tour. Perfect for those travelling with a small group or solo.

Our apartments are based in Al Wakrah, a well-established district which provides fans a perfect mix of modern infrastructure and Qatar history.

These premium apartments are renovated for fans attending Qatar 2022 with new furniture and appliances. The accommodation is modern, clean & comfortable with each bedroom having its own bathroom and lockable bedroom door for those staying in a shared apartment. Apartments include TVs with cable sports channels, WiFi, living room, kitchen and are serviced by Accor accommodation services every three days. These premium apartments differ in quality to the basic apartments offered in our Budget tour.

In the booking process you can book a Twin room which includes two single beds or a Double room which includes one double bed. If you want to be in an apartment with friends simply book on & email us with the info.

Location

Fanatics HQ is based in Al Wakrah. Our apartments are a 30-minute walk from Al Janoub stadium where the Socceroos play their 3 matches. Yep that close. There are a total of 6 matches during the group stage at this stadium so this accommodation puts you in the thick of the action. We are also a 15-minute walk from the beach & the incredible Al Wakra Souq traditional market. The surrounding area is well established with many restaurants & cafes - from traditional local fare to 24 hour McDonalds & an appearance from the Colonel. We are a few minutes away from Al Wakra's best sports bar which will be a welcome relief as all apartment blocks in Qatar are all alcohol free. To do in Al Wakrah:

  • Football – walking distance to 6 matches during your stay

  • Souq – seaside markets with cafes, restaurants, shops

  • Beaches – a family beach directly in front of the Souq

  • Five-a-Side – synthetic football pitches are on our doorstep

  • Marina – seafood restaurants surround the marina lined with traditional fishing boats

  • History – visit the Corniche, public garden & museums

  • Shop – enjoy the Ezdan Mall for mod-cons & a range of local supermarkets for supplies

Transport

Transport in Doha relies heavily on local buses and particularly the Metro network which is the city’s main system of transportation. Typically if you are having a night out on the town you would pick up an Uber which are frequent and inexpensive.

During the day and around match venues traffic can be at a standstill so for the non-Socceroo games we will be using the local metro service which is free and included as part of your match ticket. This will also provide easier transport and direct routes from the stadium you attended to the Live Site or the next stadium you are attending. The local organising committee have poured hundreds of millions of dollars into the new Metro system and this will be your best way to get between stadiums.

Of course if you are attending the Socceroo matches then no travel is required as we will walk from our apartments which are even closer than the metro stop for the stadium.

Game Day

Traditionally our pre-match functions include food, alcohol & entertainment as well as insights from our football panel. In Qatar the laws around alcohol consumption are strict which makes it difficult for pre-match functions to include lubrication. However each of the stadiums will have a pre-match set up on game days with bars serving alcohol, music & food. This will be for ticket holders of that specific match and will provide a fantastic atmosphere.

Unless the laws change & loosen, our game day festivities will include a morning football panel with our former Socceroos before heading into the stadium festival for a warm-up Budweiser or two. This plan needs to remain a little fluid as details are changing regularly but we do not believe it will be possible to organise a function on match day with alcohol at a venue outside a hotel, the live site or stadium festival. The restaurants nearby are not big enough for groups to hold these pre-match functions so we will be embracing the stadium festival in the hours leading up to the Socceroo matches.

Limited Availability

Accommodation in Qatar is extremely limited. We explored the idea of staying in another large city overseas and flying in for the games but this approach defeats the advantage of this FIFA World Cup which will be 'wall to wall' football.

We have met, sat and discussed accommodation options with the local organising committee for over 3 years. Quite simply the options are limited & while we are selling a small number of deluxe hotel rooms, if you are looking for an immersive Fanatics experience then Fanatics HQ is for you.

Importantly - we don’t have any other apartments booked, once we sell this one out we will not have any other options so get in quick as space is limited.

Hayya Card Fan ID

Everyone attending Qatar 2022 will need to apply for Hayya Card which will act as your entry visa, Fan ID stadium access and offers free match day public transport.

We will be in contact will everyone booked on the tour to collect your passport and match ticket application details. Once this information is loaded into the accommodation agency’s system you will be able to complete your Hayya card application.

Match Tickets

Australia's three matches in the group stage of the World Cup will be against reigning champions France on 22 November, Tunisia on 26 November and Denmark on 30 November.

A repeat of the heroics of Germany 2006 will see us through to a Round of 16 match against an opponent from Group C (Argentina, Saudi Arabia, Mexico or Poland) on 3 or 4 December.

Match tickets are now available from FIFA on a first-come-first-served basis. See HERE for details.

Highlights

Whilst sightseeing opportunities won't be as plentiful as previous FIFA World Cups, the trade-off in Qatar will be attending more World Cup football matches than you could ever wish for. This will be incredible!

Ground Zero

Our accommodation is based south of Doha's old town where the Al Janoub stadium is situated. This is where the Socceroos play their three matches within walking distance of your apartment.

True Doha

While the nights will differ to those spent in clubs in Russia or on the beaches in Durban, the area we are staying is well established with a host of restaurants, cafes and entertainment. While this tour will be football focused, the areas around Fanatics HQ offer a decent night out in relative terms.

FIFA Fan Zones

Your match tickets will also entitle you to entry to the FIFA Fan Zones where we will be gathering to watch the biggest matches each day. If you won’t be there in person the FIFA Fan Zones will be the next best place to be!

Doha Sightseeing

Away from the field we will have optional sightseeing tours available for you to purchase during the tour. These will be available across a number of days so depending on which matches you have tickets for you can mix your footballing extravaganza with some local middle eastern highlights.

Day tours will include a Doha city tour taking in the old town, souk market, West Bay and the modern Lusail district. The National Museum of Qatar and Museum of Islamic Art are highlights located on the waterfront and evening 4WD desert safaris including a traditional Bedouin BBQ dinner. Many of these tours you can organise yourself when you are there or book with one of our options closer to the event. We have not included these in the tour price as we have tried to provide as much flexibility to attend games as possible.

Five-a-Side

As at past tournaments we will also be running Five-a-Side games at the synthetic fields net to our apartments. Our tour hosts will be on hand to offer some coaching tips and possible even have a run themselves! We’ll announce details on what’s needed for anyone wanting to join a team closer to the tour, in the meantime get down to the local park for a couple of laps!
