NSW name Cannon for Qld match
NSW hooker Brendan Cannon has been named in the Waratahs line-up to take on Queensland in their crucial Super 12 interstate showdown on Saturday, but is no certainty to play.
The Test rake completed the Waratahs' final training session ahead of the must-win clash with their arch-rivals at Suncorp Stadium on Saturday night.
However, Cannon will be assessed again before a final decision is made.
The 30-year-old underwent plastic surgery earlier this week after he suffered deep facial gashes when allegedly assaulted in a Sydney nightclub.
Despite suffering no ill-effects after two contact sessions since the surgery, Cannon said he was still wary about playing in the heated local derby.
As well as the physical injuries, he admitted this week he was still feeling the psychological affects of the attack.
NSW coach Ewen McKenzie said he would leave the decision up to his senior player, however the Waratahs were hopeful he would play.
"Brendan's done extremely well considering his circumstance but triumph over adversity is something Brendan takes in his stride," McKenzie said.
"He obviously hasn't done much contact this week but given his experience and the stage of the season we are in, I don't believe it will be an issue."
Huia Edmonds remains on stand-by and will join the bench if Cannon is scratched with Adam Freier promoted to start.
