Waratahs play waiting game on final XV
The Brumbies will have to wait till match day to learn if they'll face injured Wallabies stars Benn Robinson and Tatafu Polota-Nau in Saturday's Super 14 Australian derby clash with the Waratahs.
NSW coach Chris Hickey named only an extended 25-man squad on Wednesday for the ANZ Stadium showdown and said he'd leave it till the last minute to finalise his team.
Hickey said he was still hopeful that prop Robinson and hooker Polota-Nau would be able to play in the crucial clash of the fifth (NSW) and sixth-placed teams.
"It's never ideal to be in the situation where you're waiting to finalise the team, but we knew right after the Crusaders game that it would be touch-and-go for both of those guys and we've prepared accordingly for almost two weeks," said Hickey, whose team is coming off a bye last week.
Props Sekope Kepu and Dan Palmer would be in line for promotion if Robinson is ruled out.
Hickey also called in rookie Rory Sidey as cover for a number of players in the backline.
"Berrick (Barnes) and Lachie (Turner) took it a bit easier yesterday with a stomach bug so they spent time away from the rest of the group, but were confident they'll get over that and be back into it tomorrow," said Hickey.
"Rob Horne also has a niggle in the buttock region, so we're monitoring his training load over the next few days."
