Rookie impresses for Brumbies
Rookie ACT lock Mark Chisholm has taken just two games to announce himself as one of Australia's rising rugby stars, following a stunning two try performance in the Brumbies 68-28 victory over the Cats at Canberra Stadium.
The Brumbies did all the damage in the first half, running in six tries to have the game in their keeping at the break with a 40-14 lead.
Chisholm was outstanding, complimenting his two tries with a tireless 80 minute display in his first start-to-finish game for the Brumbies.
Removing any lingering doubts about ACT's second row strength after the departure of Daniel Vickerman and Justin Harrison, both Chisholm's tries came during a golden five minute run in the first half.
With the Brumbies trailing 7-5, the rangy second rower grabbed his first in the 13th minute, when George Gregan noticed a lack of defence on the blindside and put Chisholm over unmarked.
Two minutes later it was Chisholm's turn to be the play maker, taking advantage of an overlap with a neatly timed overhead pass that put Stirling Mortlock across the line.
Chisholm's 18th minute try was all his own work, steamrolling over the top of two hapless Cats defenders on a powerhouse charge to the line that gave the Brumbies a 26-7 lead.
"It was really good to have that five minute berth, and now I've got to start working on my 80 minute game," Chisholm said.
"I'm really feeling a lot of confidence in what I'm doing on the field.
"It's only two games so far so I'm not getting over confident, and all I really want is that the reviews from the coaches are good."
