Martyn confident despite frustration
Out-of-sorts batsman Damien Martyn admitted his form slump had caused him great frustration, but was confident of his role in the Australian cricket team.
Martyn has endured a horror patch in the triangular one-day series, with just 122 runs in seven innings.
He has made two ducks, a one and a two in his four digs against India - Australia's opponent in Friday's first final at the MCG.
Martyn's frustration at being unable to take his net form to the middle bubbled over last week when he gave a one-fingered gesture to television cameras in Melbourne.
Breaking his silence over his form lapse, the West Australian said he felt he had been harshly treated by some sections of the media, which had focused too heavily on his inability to score a Test hundred in his past 25 innings.
"I haven't made a hundred for two years but I just keep doing my job," he said.
"I keep trying to do my job and try to make runs.
"As a team we don't always look at stats, it's about partnerships and a whole heap of different angles.
"Making a hundred - I'd love to make a hundred for the sense of saying I've made a hundred and it's a Test hundred, but I feel I've been doing a job for the side.
"If I wasn't, I wouldn't be there."
