Demons must sound out Eade, says Viney
Caretaker coach Todd Viney believes it's in Melbourne's best interests to sound out Rodney Eade for the fulltime job for next AFL season and beyond.
Eade will leave the Bulldogs at the end of the season after being told on Wednesday his contract would not be renewed.
The 53-year-old has had solid career success without winning a premiership, and looks an ideal fit for the Demons.
Viney said Melbourne needed the best available coach, and Eade should come into the reckoning.
"He's been a successful coach over a long period of time and I'm sure he'd tick most of the boxes the club would be looking for," Viney said.
After losses in his opening two matches in charge, Viney reiterated he had no intention of seeking the fulltime role beyond the rest of this season.
"It's a tough game, it's the third week and I'm starting to feel a little more comfortable," Viney said.
"But it's hard work, a lot of responsibility and I'm just happy to get this next few weeks out of the way."
The Demons play Richmond at the MCG on Sunday.
