Primus yet to decide on senior players
Port Adelaide coach Matthew Primus says he's yet to decide the AFL futures of a swag of struggling senior players.
An experienced core including Brett Ebert, Chad Cornes, Steven Salopek and Jason Davenport remain on the outer but Primus denied their cards had already been marked.
The quartet again have been shunned for selection as the 16th-placed Power travel to meet West Coast on Sunday.
Primus used Port's bye last weekend for an extensive midseason review, meeting with all players.
"Nobody has really been told they are playing for their future," Primus said on Friday.
"But we are looking at what they can do in the next 11 weeks with us or in the SANFL.
"The AFL makes you change over your list every year by three of four players and we'll have to do that, so certain players are under a bit more pressure than others.
"But every player has got goals they need to work on over the next 11 weeks and some will be getting a contract next year, and some will be improving what they have done this year, and others will be trying to experiment in different roles."
Primus said he remained open-minded about all players despite Port's battles this season.
"I don't want to make it tough on anyone, we want to give people opportunities to show what they can do," he said.
"I haven't made any decisions on anyone but we'll be looking closely at what certain players can do over the next 11 weeks.
"And the closer it gets to the end of the season, the closer we get to making our minds up."
Primus also analysed Port's coaching group and their methods during the break, identifying stoppage work as an area needing improvement.
"We had a big look at where we are at statistically and what we need to work on - being where we are on the ladder, there is lots of things we need to work on," he said.
"But we are focused on two or three areas ... that will be our goals to work on that for the next 11 weeks.
"We need to increase our stoppage work against the opposition a bit more in the positive.
"And our ability to hold onto the ball with a bit more time in possession - the opposition are dominating us in that regard, which goes back to winning the ball at stoppages.
"So they're probably two of the areas.
"And our defensive work, we need to continue on that and decrease the amount of times we are scored against."
