Murphy signs with AFL's Blues to 2014
Carlton midfield gun Marc Murphy has signed a new deal which ties him to the AFL club for the next three seasons.
The contract puts the 23-year-old out of the reach of expansion club Greater Western Sydney, which can poach out-of-contract players at the end of this season and after the 2012 season.
Murphy was in the top three in the Blues' best and fairest in each of the past three seasons and has been a driving force behind Carlton's emergence as a top-four club so far this year.
Picked at No.1 in the 2005 national draft, Murphy has played 112 AFL games since making his debut in the opening round of the 2006 season.
"I enjoy being a part of Carlton and believe it is a fantastic time to be at the club. We have a great group and I am keen to see through the work that we have started," he told the Blues' website.
"Importantly, I am keen to be a part of Carlton's 17th premiership."
Carlton football manager Steven Icke said the club was delighted to have Murphy secured until the end of 2014.
"He is an outstanding young man and has shown continued improvement in his five years at the club," Icke said.
"He had an immediate impact at Carlton from his first game and this year in particular, he has displayed the form that has cemented him as an elite midfielder in the AFL.
"We know he will continue to improve and enjoy a long and sensational career at Carlton."
