Stuart says one win will do for 2011
NSW coach Ricky Stuart says he'll be happy if the Blues win just one match in this year's State of Origin series against Queensland.
Stuart was the last Blues coach to record a series victory, in 2005, but the former Cronulla and Roosters mentor believes more success could be a long process.
Speaking on OneHD's One Week At A Time on Monday night, Stuart declared he'd accept the Blues plummeting to their sixth straight series defeat if it means inroads are made for the future.
Stuart is adamant he must think further ahead than chasing a quick fix in 2011.
"My decisions aren't just going to be for this year," he said.
"I'd wear a series loss to get the long-term gain, absolutely.
"If we can win one game this year, if we can win one game I'll be happy."
The Blues boss says long-term thinking will also influence his decision about who captains the side.
"If it's Paul Gallen, if it's Kurt Gidley, if it's any of the boys I have in mind it has to be for the future and it has to be the best for NSW rugby league," he said.
"This series has to be the start of the next three to five seasons."
