Desperate Wallabies eye drought-breaker
The Wallabies will attempt to get their spring tour off to a flying start with a drought-breaking win over the All Blacks in Saturday night's Bledisloe Cup Test match in Hong Kong.
Australia are desperate for a breakthrough win over their trans-Tasman rivals, who have had the wood on the Wallabies for 10 straight Tests.
The Wallabies are hoping their one-point loss in Sydney last month and their hoodoo-busting win in over South Africa in Bloemfontein the week before means they have turned the corner and can finally knock off the New Zealanders.
In a major boost for Robbie Deans' men, tighthead prop Ben Alexander returns after nearly five months on the sidelines with a knee injury.
Rising star Quade Cooper will play his first Test against the world's best No.10 Daniel Carter, who may struggle to finish the match in his return from ankle surgery.
John Eales medallist David Pocock renews his battle with benchmark No.7 Richie McCaw, but also expects to battle it out at the breakdown with benchman and former Queensland flanker Daniel Braid.
"Richie's the captain so you expect he's going to stay on for the whole game unless he gets injured," Pocock said.
"Daniel Braid's an outstanding player and really thrives once the game opens up and he's a great link player.
"I guess I'd expect to see both of them out there at some stage.
"The Queensland boys know (Braid) pretty well, they know his game.
"I've played against him a few times in the Super 14.
"We've got a lot of footage on him and I guess everyone's been doing their homework."
The sides have met once before at Hong Kong Stadium, in 2008, when the Kiwi outfit prevailed 19-14.
A crowd of more than 25,000 is expected at the 38,000-seat venue, which nestles among the high-rise jungle of Hong Kong.
Kick-off is at 4.30pm local time (1930pm AEDT).
