Storm announce new signings
Melbourne Storm have re-signed several members of their generation next to new deals as they look to rebuild in the wake of the salary cap scandal that decimated their playing ranks.
Dane Nielsen, Bryan Norrie, Justin O'Neill and Rory Kostjasyn have all signed on for two more seasons, while Luke Kelly and Robbie Rochow have extended their contracts until the end of 2011.
"This is great news for the club," Storm coach Craig Bellamy said.
"Melbourne is a tremendous place for young players to develop both as men and as footballers and we believe all of these players will play a big role for the Storm in 2011."
The club also officially announced the signing of experienced props Adam Woolnough and Troy Thompson on Thursday, along with young Warriors winger Elijah Niko.
Woolnough, 29, has spent the last year travelling overseas after quitting Penrith in 2009 with a year left on his contract.
"Since I started playing first-grade I'd always had this bug inside me willing me to experience the world before I get too old," Woolnough said from South Africa, where he was about to embark on a four-day safari.
"Over the past 12 months I've been lucky enough to do that just with my wife.
"We discussed it while we were overseas and we decided that if the right offer was to come along then I would consider returning to rugby league.
"When it was Melbourne that made that offer I jumped at the opportunity. My body's refreshed and I'm ready to go."
In other news, the Storm's final home game of 2010 against Newcastle on September 5 is officially a sellout.
The Storm priced tickets to the match at $1 as a thank you for fans in the most difficult of years for the club.
