Put loyalty before cash: Dangerfield
Adelaide young gun Patrick Dangerfield says he would put loyalty before cash, unlike his ex-teammate Nathan Bock.
Bock disappointed his Crows teammates by taking a lucrative three-year contract with the Gold Coast, reportedly worth $750,000 a season.
Dangerfield earlier this year inked a new deal with the Crows despite overtures from Melbourne clubs and the Gold Coast.
The 20-year-old said he would put loyalty before money when deciding his future.
"For Bocky's situation, he's 27 years old, he's a lot older than I am - I can see where he's coming from but I'm not sure I would have made the same decision," Dangerfield said on Thursday.
Dangerfield, one of the AFL's rising stars, said Bock deserved credit for his honesty in fronting Adelaide players and coaches and telling them of his decision to leave.
"That was very good of Nathan to come forward and put it all on the table, I think you'll find at the end of the year a lot of players will just sneak out the back door," he said.
"But Nathan was up-front, honest with the entire group, and I can't commend him enough for that."
Some Crows players, including retiring forward Brett Burton, immediately told Bock of their disappointment at his decision.
Dangerfield would not elaborate on the instant response but Burton has admitted telling Bock he had rejected the Crows' culture by putting himself before the team.
Dangerfield said the arrival of the Gold Coast next year, and Greater Western Sydney the following season, would challenge the loyalty of players.
"It's something that is certainly going to test a lot of players with the amount of money that is being thrown around at the moment," he said.
"But in the end, that is the decision that those particular players have to make and it's one they are going to have to live with."
