Polota-Nau to prove his Test readiness
Powerful hooker Tatafu Polota-Nau is ready to play a full game for the Australian Barbarians against England on Tuesday to prove he's ready to return to Test duty.
One of the in-form Australian forwards of the Super 14 tournament, Waratahs rake Polota-Nau missed the Wallabies' first two Tests of the season against Fiji and England with shoulder and ankle injuries.
With the very inexperienced Australian front row struggling to contain their more seasoned English opponents in Perth last weekend, Polota-Nau's imminent return to international duty is a timely boost for Australia.
The big ball-running frontrower hasn't played for the best part of a month since appearing in the Waratahs' Super semi-final loss to the Stormers.
"It feels like a year ago to be honest, just watching from the sidelines, it's good to be getting back on the park tomorrow," Polota-Nau told reporters on Monday.
"I am confident that I will last the 80 minutes tomorrow night, but whether they (the selectors) want me to play 80 or not is another question."
Polota-Nau set the scene for another fierce physical encounter following the 28-28 draw between the Barbarians an England in Perth last week.
"England is a real physical pack. There is no other way to meet them than to actually be physical and you definitely want to get in there and make sure you meet their physicality, but also try and beat that physicality," Polota-Nau said.
The Australian Barbarians will be captained by No. 8 Stephen Hoiles, who said he was likely to re-sign with the Brumbies over the next couple of weeks.
Tuesday night's match will be the first Hoiles has played in under referee Steve Walsh since they clashed verbally in a late season Super 14 game featuring the Brumbies and Waratahs in Sydney.
"It's a completely different team. We've all moved on, hopefully it's not an issue at all," Hoiles said.
"You always learn things and there were definitely things I have taken out of that game that I know I could've managed better."
Hoiles said the Australian teams wanted to keep England winless on their four-match tour of the country.
While Wallabies coach Robbie Deans wouldn't rule out promoting players from the Barbarians to the Test team, like he did last week with fullback James O'Connor, none of the selected England side are expected to be in contention to start the second Test.
