US Vice-President Biden visits USA team
US Vice-President Joe Biden made a brief dressing-room visit with the United States World Cup team about an hour before the players kicked off their campaign against England.
Biden told the team that he brought best wishes from US President Barack Obama during a five-minute meeting with players, wishing them luck and saying how happy he was to be able to watch them play.
"The players and coaches were honoured to have Vice-President Biden visit the team before the match," US Soccer Federation president Sunil Gulati said.
"The Vice-President providing the team a good luck message was an extraordinary way to head into our opening match."
The US squad visited the White House on May 27, meeting with Obama, Biden and former US President Bill Clinton three days before departing for South Africa.
