Bellamy forgets blues with NSW
The change has been as good as a holiday for NSW coach Craig Bellamy.
Shattered by the penalties meted out to his NRL club Melbourne after the salary cap scandal, the Blues' State of Origin camp has been a welcome breath of fresh air for the 50-year-old coach.
"It's been a nice change to be quite honest," he said on the eve of Origin I.
"Whenever I've come into camp here the Melbourne hat gets thrown away for a week and I put the NSW hat on and that's how I've tried to approach this camp and that's how I've handled it.
"I haven't had too much correspondence with the Melbourne organisation at all.
"I just want to try and do the best job I can here for NSW."
How Bellamy was holding up leading in to the camp was enough of an issue for him to speak to the players about it.
"I wouldn't say (I) addressed them, I just made my point about where I was at and made a point about where I was hoping they were at and let's just get on with it," he said.
But he said there was no extra motivation to win the series in 2010 after Melbourne were denied the chance of an NRL premiership.
"It doesn't matter what situation you're in at your club, it doesn't matter what situation the series is in, every game is an event, a big event in our game," he said.
"I wouldn't say that this is more important than any other time.
"It would obviously be very nice to win.
"I haven't thought about that too much because you start thinking about that, you start drifting from what your focus should be.
"Every now and then you might think about it and then you just put it into the back of your mind."
The Storm will look like a different side next year once their roster is carved up to get the club under the $4.1 million salary cap, but Bellamy hasn't considered how that might affect his job with the Blues.
"At the end of the day there's a lot of reasons it could be my last series," he said.
"I don't want to think about it until the end of the series.
"It might be someone else's decision, it might be my decision.
"We want to be successful in this series and if I start thinking about whether I'm going to be here next year or won't I be, that ain't going to help anybody."
