Welsh rugby star Delve signs with Rebels
Melbourne Rebels have signed their second British international, with Welsh No.8 Gareth Delve agreeing to terms with the new Super rugby franchise.
Delve, who has been capped 11 times by Wales, made the announcement after captaining Gloucester to a 19-0 win over Leeds.
"The opportunity to test myself alongside the best players in world rugby in a competition I have grown up admiring, was one I couldn't refuse," he said.
"Having made this decision, my entire focus will remain on helping Gloucester Rugby to achieve the success that it so richly deserves.
" ... I will continue to be totally committed to the club for the remainder of the season."
Delve, 27, will link up with English five-eighth Danny Cipriani in Melbourne.
The Rebels have now signed nine players and plan to announce more recruits in the next few days.
"We've been talking to Gareth for a while now, and he is exactly the sort of player and mentor we're after," said Rebels head coach Rod Macqueen.
"He's a very good ball player who will certainly fit in well with the team."
Delve said that one of the key factors in his decision to come to Melbourne was the opportunity to work with the former Wallabies coach.
"For Rod Macqueen to come out of retirement, this must be something special," he said.
"The chance to be involved with the building of a club from the ground up has great appeal."
