Giteau admits he must lift his own game

Brumbies playmaker Matt Giteau concedes he is not playing at his best but is adamant he will bounce back.

The Wallabies No.10 is struggling to find the form that has given him a reputation as one of Super 14 rugby's most potent attacking threats.

Giteau struggled to make an impact in his first match back in Canberra in Brumbies' colours since joining from the Western Force, Friday night's 24-13 win over the Lions.

His struggles were highlighted when in his first involvement in the game, he kicked the ball out on the full from the kick-off.

"I'm frustrated like everyone else," he said of his recent form, labelling Friday night's effort a "mixed" performance.

"There's times where I feel I'm trying to push things.

"I've just got to relax a little more and I think like with the rest of the side, things will happen."

While the Brumbies have now won three from four, their inability to lock away a bonus point remains a major problem.

The Brumbies have not scored a bonus point yet this season and will be wary that a similar lack last year saw them narrowly miss out on making the finals.

Giteau said the team needs to ensure it does not become a habit.

"We've got to start getting bonus point wins," Giteau said.

Brumbies coach Andy Friend concedes the bonus point factor is a concern, and says the side's inability to execute at crucial times was hurting the side.

He said the side must be more clinical if they are to be contenders at the back end of the season.

"The mindset is there to get that fourth try, it's just the ability to control the footy for long enough to make sure it happens," Friend said.

"Against the Lions, we got down in the A zone on too many occasions and didn't come away with points and that's what hurts.

"We had 24 minutes where we'd scored left and we needed one more try and we continued to work to the line but then we just weren't good enough to execute."

The Brumbies will take on the Sharks at home next Saturday and Friend says the longer break will be welcome.

"It's going to be nice to have a week where we haven't travelled and we've got an eight day turnaround."

On a positive note for the side, the Brumbies are expected to be injury free for the clash with the Sharks.
