NZ Warriors veteran Jones to retire
Veteran halfback Stacey Jones will retire from the NRL again next season after turning down an offer from the Warriors to play on.
Jones made a highly-publicised return to the New Zealand-based side this year after the club lured him back on a one-year deal.
Warriors coach Ivan Cleary was keen for the 33-year-old to sign on for another season, however Jones told the club this week he was hanging up his boots.
The club confirmed the news on Saturday night after their draw with the Panthers and will farewell the Warriors after their home game against Melbourne on September 5.
"It was a big decision to come back for this season and I'm really glad I did it," Jones said in a statement.
"While it has been a disappointing season for us in terms of results, I've really enjoyed having another chance to play in the NRL.
"I love this club and it's a great place to be around but I've decided it's the right time for me to move on and let other players come through."
Jones is the only remaining Warriors' foundation players from 1995 and has now racked up 256 NRL matches.
