Williams says Thurston didn't mean it
NSW Origin winger David Williams says he's satisfied Maroons halfback Jonathan Thurston's kick to his head was unintentional.
The bearded Williams returned home from Wednesday's Origin game win at Suncorp Stadium with an ugly black eye and swollen cheek but cleared of a fractured cheekbone after Thurston's careless try-saving attempt.
"It probably looks worse than what it is," said Williams, who copped Thurston's boot to his head after diving on a Trent Barrett grubber and controversially grounding the ball.
Thurston's action in trying to knock the ball clear was penalised and gave the Blues an eight-point try - an incident Maroons coach Mal Meninga described as petty."
Williams would not comment on the penalty decision but defended Thurston.
"He didn't mean to do it," Williams said.
X-rays cleared Williams of a broken cheekbone and he is expected to play in Manly's clash against the Sharks on Saturday.
