We'd rather have Origin reps: Tongue
They're unaffected by State of Origin call-ups but Canberra skipper Alan Tongue says he'd rather have players missing on representative duty.
The Raiders were the only one of the 16 NRL teams to not have a player named for either Queensland or NSW after five-eighth Terry Campese was dropped from the Blues squad.
Giant forward Tom Learoyd-Lahrs and winger Joel Monaghan have been named as shadow players for the injury-hit Blues, but both are currently available to play for the Raiders against Manly on Sunday.
And while Tongue says having a full squad of players is an advantage during the Origin period, he'd rather see Learoyd-Lahrs and Monaghan missing the Brookvale Oval match to line up for NSW.
"It depends which way you look at it," Tongue told AAP.
"It is definitely an advantage, we can have a more settled line-up week-in, week-out.
"But on the other side of the coin is too, when guys come back from State of Origin it just does their confidence a world of good, plus their enthusiasm and their confidence in their own ability.
"I think we could gain more out of it with Joel and Tommy Learoyd probably playing in the game and coming back to us with that bolstered feel you get from playing in rep footy."
Tongue said, while Campese was disappointed to be dumped by Blues selectors after making his Origin debut in Melbourne earlier this month, he expected the No.6 to bounce back.
"True to Campo's style, he's back at training and trying to do the best he can for the club and himself," he said.
"He knows too that if he starts playing the footy that he can and the side's winning, his name just gets popped back up the list.
"He's obviously very disappointed because he would have loved to have been playing in that arena again but he's showed the class that he is and just come back and he's working hard on his game."
