The AFL's pre-season competition may force the rock band AC/DC to find a new venue for its Melbourne concerts early next year.

AC/DC have three shows booked at Etihad Stadium at Docklands for their Black Ice tour on February 11, 13 and 15 2010.

But the Herald Sun newspaper says the AFL is adamant the stadium sticks to a contract that gives the league priority on all bookings at that time of the year for the NAB Cup competition.

AFL matches are planned at the stadium on the three concert days.

The AFL has written to Etihad Stadium boss Ian Collins about the clash.

"Our window of scheduling is very clear," AFL chief broadcasting and commercial officer Gillon McLachlan told the newspaper.

Mr McLachlan said the AFL had few options to reschedule matches to other grounds.

"Skilled Stadium (in Geelong) is being redeveloped and the MCG is unavailable (because of the cricket pitches) ... this has nothing to do with AC/DC," he said.

"It is about having a sensible discussion on how we are going to run our competition.

"I've got AC/DC tickets and I will be happy to go wherever the concert is."

Two AC/DC shows have sold out. A third is selling strongly and there is talk of a fourth show.

The stadium will hold up to 60,000 concert-goers.

Etihad Stadium communications manager Bill Lane said: "Our contractual arrangements and matters of commercial business are not subjects we discuss in the public domain."
