Star hooker Michael Ennis led the Bulldogs to their fourth straight NRL victory against Canberra on Sunday, increasing calls for him to be NSW's No.9 for this year's State of Origin series.

The 25-year-old scored one try and had a hand in three others as the Bulldogs battled to a 30-20 win at Canberra Stadium.

It wasn't all good news though for Ennis, who was placed on report for a `chicken wing' tackle against Raiders fullback Josh Dugan during the match.

Canberra had initially raced to a 12-0 lead through tries to prop Troy Thompson and centre Joel Monaghan before centre Daryl Millard opened the visitor's account.

Adrian Purtell stretched Canberra's lead further before Ennis set-up prop Ben Hannant under the posts to reduce the margin to one try.

And with just seconds left in the half, winger Bryson Goodwin dived over to put the Bulldogs ahead 18-16 going into the break.

Ennis then scored himself in the 62nd minute, and despite Raiders skipper Alan Tongue barrelling over five minutes later, Hazem El-Masri's late try sealed the win for the Dogs.

Bulldogs coach Kevin Moore said Ennis' performance highlighted why he had been brought to the club from Brisbane at the end of last year.

"I think he is a really good quality bloke," Moore said.

"He's a professional, he's passionate about his footy, he works really hard at his game and he's one of those blokes that thinks, eats and breaths footy which is good for us given where we were at the end of last year.

"There is the talent that he has, certainly great out of dummy-half, he's competitive."

Canberra coach David Furner admitted his side had talked about the danger Ennis presented on the paddock and trained to minimise his impact, but to no avail.

"We know how dangerous he is and then when you talk about it and he goes and does it, it's disappointing," he said.

With Danny Buderus plying his trade in England, the Blues' No.9 jersey is up for grabs and appears to be a battle between Ennis and Wests Tiger Robbie Farah.

And while Ennis felt comfortable he wouldn't be in too much trouble with his report, he also played down talk of him securing an Origin jersey.

"You see a lot of guys get spoken about a lot and they start to fall away so I'm just trying to really concentrate hard on each week," he said.

"To make sure it's right and so long as I am doing that and the team's going alright, well the other stuff seems to take care of itself.

"If I start wondering how (Farah's) going or how other blokes are going or what are the selectors thinking, it's too much to worry about, the games too tough at the moment to start worrying about things like that."
