Six Nations ticket scam nets 700 fans
Seven hundred French rugby fans who bought travel and ticket packages for France's Six Nations opener in Ireland on Saturday were the victims of a scam, according to the head office of the national police force.
The two directors of the company allegedly responsible for the swindle were arrested by French police in Dijon on Tuesday and were still being detained on Wednesday.
Initial reports suggest the pair had created a fictitious online company purporting to sell a package including airline tickets, hotel reservations and match tickets for the Croke Park clash.
Among the 700 affected fans, who are believed to have paid a combined amount of 315,000 ($A630,000), 300 are members of the official French rugby supporters' club.
