Former All Blacks scrum-half Justin Marshall has cut short his stay with French side Montpellier to sign a short-term deal with English Premiership club Saracens.

The 35-year-old, who previously played in England with Leeds, was pinpointed by Saracens' former Wallabies coach Eddie Jones after South African Neil de Kock was ruled out for around three months after breaking his arm.

Marshall is the second most capped player in All Blacks history behind Sean Fitzpatrick with 88 appearances.

"After recent discussions with Montpellier in relation to my one-year contract, it was mutually agreed that I wouldn't renew," said Marshall.

"Montpellier have been very attentive in their listening and have facilitated me making a quick decision.

"Saracens is a high-profile, quality club, and I am looking forward to joining up with the squad.

"There is still a good chunk of the season remaining, and I am excited about contributing on and off the field."

Jones added: "Justin is one of the most experienced scrum-halves in the world and a really tough competitor.

"He will provide great support for (scrum-halves) Moses (Rauluni) and Mickey (Wilson), and we are lucky to be able to sign someone with his knowledge of the game."
