Swans' Malceski to play against Bombers
Sydney's Nick Malceski has passed a fitness test and will play against Essendon on Sunday less than three months after undergoing radical knee surgery.
The hard-running defender trained strongly at the SCG on Friday to be given the all-clear to return to AFL action this weekend at ANZ Stadium.
The 23-year-old has produced a remarkably quick recovery after rupturing his anterior cruciate ligament in February - the injury normally rubbing a player out for 12 months.
But Malceski has undergone a revolutionary approach involving the use of artificial fibre intertwined with the damaged ligament.
Swans coach Paul Roos said Sydney's runner-up in the best and fairest count last year was ready to go.
"He has done everything we wanted him to from a medical point of view, from the selection point of view he is in the 22 and will be playing on Sunday," Roos said.
"Pending of course that he pulls up OK tomorrow."
