Loss would blow season start: Anasta
Sydney Roosters star Braith Anasta says a loss to St George Illawarra on Friday would ruin the club's impressive start to the NRL season.
The Roosters head into the Anzac Day clash at ANZ Stadium as overwhelming favourites after starting the year with four wins from six games, while their opponents are languishing in 15th place with just one victory.
While the performances of the two clubs have fallen to opposite ends of the form spectrum - Roosters brilliant and Dragons inept - Anasta said a loss would undo his side's early season victories.
"We have had such a great start to the year. If we lose this week it really sort of takes a lot away from that," Anasta told AAP.
"We have to keep the momentum going and playing good football.
"It's a quick turnaround (from Sunday's upset loss to Newcastle), we haven't had this quick of a turnaround all year so it's going to be a test for us.
"But I think losing on the weekend can be motivation for us and if we can get this win this week it will be a big win for us."
The Roosters currently sit fourth on the competition table, one win off pacesetters Gold Coast.
But behind the Roosters is a traffic jam of eight teams locked on six points and a loss would plunge the tricolours back into the mid-table battle.
Three of those chasing clubs - Newcastle, Penrith and Canberra - are gifted two points with a bye this week while four others could potentially move to eight points with a win over the weekend.
The Roosters threw away their chance for top spot on the table with last Sunday's fading loss to the Knights and prop Nate Myles said it was important his side regained momentum before their bye next week.
"Being a four-point game (with bye) is enough to say we should come out and perform well and the fact it is the Anzac clash I think everyone is going to be fired up," said Myles.
"We need this win to I suppose be a little bit more relaxed on the bye and come back refreshed."
