Giteau clocks fastest 400m since Lewis
Rising star Kasey Giteau has clocked the fastest 400m freestyle time by an Australian woman since Hayley Lewis almost a decade ago.
The 20-year-old Sydney Olympian swam the distance in a time of 4min10sec.45 to take gold on day two of the Mare Nostrum European tour meet in Monte Carlo.
It was the fastest time since Lewis clocked 4:09.74 to win the national championship in 1994, and the seventh quickest by an Australian.
Giteau will be absent from the world championships in Barcelona next month, having finished fourth in the March qualifying tournament.
