Schipper wins gold in 200m butterfly
Jess Schipper has won Australia's fourth gold medal of the week by winning the 200m butterfly at the world titles in Melbourne.
World record-holder Schipper (2 minutes 6.39 seconds) took the race out hard and just held off the fast-finishing American Kimberly Vandenberg (2:06.71) and 2005 winner Otylia Jedrzejczak (2:06.90).
It is the second medal of the meet for Schipper after she picked up silver behind compatriot Libby Lenton in the 100m butterfly.
The 200m title will be particularly sweet for Schipper having missed out on the four-lap title in controversial circumstances in Montreal.
Olympic champion Jedrzejczak edged out Schipper by 0.04 of a second with an illegal one-handed touch at the death to rob the Australian of the title.
"I am so excited and just so relieved it is over," said Schipper.
