Cayless out for up to two months
Parramatta prop Michael Vella says he's ready to shoulder more responsibility in the absence of captain Nathan Cayless, who was ruled out for up to two months today with a broken arm.
The Eels suffered a setback on Sunday when Cayless underwent x-rays which revealed he had broken the arm in Saturday night's win over the Wests Tigers.
The 25-year-old has had the arm put in plaster and is expected to miss at least six weeks.
It's a savage blow to the struggling club, which has had a slow start to the season but looked to be hitting its straps against the Tigers.
Cayless' injury adds to a worrying list at the club, with Nathan Hindmarsh (ankle) and winger Luke Burt (shoulder) expected to be sidelined for four weeks and five-eighth Adam Dykes (Achilles) missing the Tigers clash.
Dykes should return to the Parramatta side this week.
The 25-year-old Cayless was at his inspirational best against Wests, making 19 tackles and 12 hit-ups as the Eels registered their second win of the season.
"He'll be missed by the team," Vella said.
"He's a good captain and a good player.
"He's just one of those guys that's tough and aggressive on the field and very skilful.
